Accurate training and a real capacity for personal autonomy are essential to face the race of the Vibram® Trail Mottarone, although there are no specific limitations for participation.
The Vibram® Trail Mottarone 2021 kicks off a few steps from the Stresa lakeside, precisely at the Palazzo dei Congressi; first km of asphalt slightly uphill to leave the town and take the Cai path L6 “la Pissarotta”.
Climbing more steeply in this panoramic stretch on the hill of Stresa to the area of the Someraro hamlet; the attention will focus on the panorama that will present to you, in addition to the beauty of the small characteristic alleys.
At the height of the majestic church, take the uphill path of the old farm that will take you to the first water point at the "Il l'Ordin" farmhouse, a beautiful balcony overlooking the lake.
In a short asphalted stretch you reach location 13 Betulle, from here on a wide, slightly flat road you reach the downhill stretch of the Cai M5 path, sometimes steep (pay attention especially in case of rain), up to Loita di Baveno.
From here, an old CAI VM2 path will take you to Tranquilla, where there will be one refreshment point, as well as checkpoint and rescue point. Once you have taken the Tranquilla private road up to the aqueduct, you will go up on path M3; passing through the Museum of the stonecutters with a view of the majestic pink granite quarry, the real muscular effort will begin, the path climbs rapidly in hairpin bends to Alpe Camoscio (890 meters), where you will find the second water point at the Capanna degli Alpini refuge in Baveno and you will be about 13 km and point of the time gate (3h30').
The path from here continues on the panoramic ridge, sometimes steep, to then descend to Alpe Vedabia (799 m), where after a short plateau and a wide road you will take the Cai M2 path at the top of the hill you will find the cross of the mountain Zughero (1230 m) and the Cai Baveno refuge. Last stretch of the race to get to the second refreshment point and rescue point at the Cai Alpe Nuovo hut and you will be around 18.5 km away; from here, you will take the dorsal path that climbs along the gullies that overlook Omegna.
487 / 5000
Our patron Max Valsesia advises you not to underestimate this final part, a little for the tiredness in the legs and in good part for the awareness of being able to enjoy the final ring on the slopes, which will first take you to the summit of Mottarone (1491 mt), and then swoops down to the arrival area located near the square on the baby slope. Each athlete has the opportunity to return to the starting area with their own means of transport or by cable car made available by the organization.
